When the Elnecot team set out to open a bar, it was important that they created something grounded in their location and heritage whilst offering a welcoming ambience for their customers.
They wanted to create a venue that was inviting in all circumstance: work or play, solo or friend-group or even with your dog! (Yes they are dog friendly).
To share their story, they need to share Ancoats story; one that is integral to both Manchester's and Britain's industrial history. The first recording of Ancoats was in 1212, as a small settlement of just a few dwellings. The area was then called "Elnecot"; a name derived from the Old English 'Ana Cots' or 'lonely cottages'.
It was the 1800's and the Industrial Revolution that truly put Ancoats on the map and it became known as "the world's first industrial suburb". The building of the canals and the rapid establishment of many mills saw the area become a major producer of cotton, glass and iron.
