This remarkable value-for-money Castlefield restaurant was opened in 2004 and has remained a Mancunian food and drink institution ever since. Still family-ran, it is named after the uncle of owner Jim Ramsbottom, who used to store his tools in the original canalside stable block as they converted the adjacent Dukes 92 together. Today, quality British dishes, with additional favourites from Italy and around the globe, together with a great Sunday lunch, are served in a sharp, modern space with one of Manchester's most beautiful summer terraces. It's just a short walk through the heritage zone to The Opera House and a pleasant stroll along the canal to both The Bridgewater Hall and Old Trafford.
