Pho Manchester

Pho, pronounced 'fuh', opened in the iconic, and newly renovated, Corn Exchange in the heart of Manchester in September 2015. With an entrance on Cathedral Street, just a stone's throw from the Manchester Arena, Royal Exchange Theatre and Manchester Arndale, the restaurant is set across three floors with a mix of cosy booth seating, large tables and benches, or external tables within the amazing central atrium.

The Pho story actually started ten years earlier though, when Stephen and Juliette Wall opened London’s first Vietnamese street food restaurant, after they had travelled to Vietnam and fell in love with the food. They made the decision to start a restaurant serving pho, the Vietnamese national dish – an amazingly tasty and nutritious noodle soup - while sat on high stools, slurping pho bo, around the shopfront of Pho Quynh in Ho Chi Minh City. Today, Pho is still a family-run business serving great value, authentically prepared Vietnamese street food, with sixteen restaurants across the country.

As their name suggests, Pho Manchester specialise in the Vietnamese national dish, pho; a fantastic steaming bowl of rice noodle soup served with a side plate of fresh herbs. The addition of these herbs and table condiments is an essential part of the experience and adds another dimension to the dish, whether it be a chilli paste for a kick, fish sauce for extra saltiness, or garlic vinegar for sourness.

Other authentic Vietnamese dishes, include starters made for dipping, rolling and sharing. Everything is made fresh in-house, from the Summer and Spring Rolls to the Pork & Lemongrass Meatballs.

Crispy, colourful, tasty and filling, delicious spicy Vietnamese salads are light years away from mundane lettuce-based salads, and you can also choose from a variety of 'broken rice' dishes like fragrant Vietnamese curries, aromatic spicy wok-fried rice and Xáo - a stir fry of chilli and greens in a mild gingery sweet sauce..

Bun noodles provide a fantastically light and healthy way to enjoy noodles - an attack on the senses with contrasting textures, temperatures, colour and flavours. Every bowl contains soft room temperature vermicelli rice noodles, an abundance of fresh herbs, crunchy carrot and mooli pickle, and crisp lettuce with a hot topping of your choice stir fried in lemongrass and a little chilli. The dish is garnished with roasted peanuts and fried shallots and a veggie spring roll.

A favourite on the menu is the Pho Xao, a wok fried flat noodle served with crunchy greens, protein and a choice of toppings – tender beef, chicken, prawn & chicken or tofu & mushroom. All are topped with roasted peanuts and fresh beanshoots. Think of it as the Vietnamese Pad Thai, only better!

The vast majority of the menu is egg and dairy free and made from ingredients containing no gluten, most of the vegetarian dishes are also vegan and the chicken meat is Halal.
