Despite
reaching the coveted number 1 position in the Restaurants Of Manchester
Top 10 Best Restaurants in Manchester, Manchester 's taste buds
were tingling for no more than 5 months when Gastro's food hall,
restaurant and cafe bar opened and closed almost as quickly in the
beautifully restored, brick and wood Victorian warehouse in the
bohemian, bustling neighbourhood of Sackville Street, (next to Tribecca
in the ill-fated building previously occupied by Gaia). |
Set
over two floors, the aim of the business was to offer its customers
an array of food shopping and dining options, from the raw ingredients
to a fantastic meal in a relaxed, friendly, professional manner. |
Open
from early in the morning until late at night, the café bar
& food hall upstairs stocked a large range of products - from
hand crafted pasta and olive oils, to a bag of organic flour and
a fantastic selection of artisan wines, breads, coffees and teas.
A 50ft deli counter featured cured meats from Calabria, local cheeses,
meats, fish, home made sauces, salads, olives, cakes and so much
more. It was stacked with quality, local & international ingredients
– organic where possible, always ethical. |
|
|
The
Gastro's 'To Go' range featured freshly made sandwiches, salads and
fantastic, home cooked prepared meals to go. Using their own artisan
products, always healthy and interesting and never with any of those
nasty ingredients you find in the supermarkets. |
If
it was an early morning coffee and croissant, or if a breakfast, such
as organic porridge you're after, (to go or to stay) - Gastro's was
the place to be. |
In
the upstairs seductive café bar, light brunches from fresh
salads and eggs Benedict to stone baked pizza were served from 11am.
|
The
sumptuous restaurant downstairs was open for lunch and dinner every
day. Rick Barlow headed the team in cooking up the quality, seasonal,
fresh and local ingredients with passion and flair. |

Restaurant Reviews |
"Gastro's
is what Manchester has been crying out for! Whilst the likes of
Love Saves The Day have provided a great deli cum cafe, Gastro's
takes the concept one level further - a superb delicatessen with
a great cafe and an amazing restaurant to match
|
Located
in the old Sackville Street warehouse vacated by Gaia, the location
is also in its favour. Just 5 minutes walk from the Palace Theatre
and even closer to the gay village with Piccadilly train station also
a stone's throw away, it's the ideal place to grab some ingredients
on your way home or a top notch meal ahead of your show. |
Whilst
the cafe upstairs offers a great menu and superb pizza's, the food
in the downstairs restaurant is truly fantastic - indeed, a revelation
and almost unexpected from such a laid back welcoming environment. |
Prices
are also worthy of mention, mains ranging from £6.25 to only
£13.95. For locally sourced food of this quality you'd expect
to pay more. If this was a more formal dining environment, it would
probably be widely touted as the best restaurant in town. High praise,
well deserved for this inclusive destination worthy of many a repeat
visit"
