"Excellent!
We were a little sceptical about a restaurant in a 'Food Hall' but
we couldn't have been more wrong. The atmosphere and service
were great, but most importantly the food was fantastic.
Whilst I had the Goan Fillet from the specials list, my partner chose
a rib eye. He described it as possibly the best steak he had ever
eaten - definitely far superior to anything else in Manchester.
I would say try this restaurant as soon as you can - it is now our
favourite"

"My
friend had a special birthday so before the show we dropped on spec
into Gastros. Everything was superb, we sat upstairs
so we could see over the park, tables lovely, staff very nice,
a relaxed atmosphere and food to die for! The meats
were tender melt in the mouth, not too much and everything seemed
top quality, from the olives and feta with fresh bread to dip in olive
oil, to the Lamb rump and ribeye steak etc. Wonderful meal!"

"Arrived
on spec and had to wait a short while for a table, enjoyed
the food and happy with the service, comfortable
dining room, only minor issue was that the greeter
was very quiet and struggled to hear what he was saying!"

"I
hadn't heard of Gastro's until seeing it listed above many great restaurants
in the Restaurants Of Manchester Top 10 list. What a fantastic
surprise this place is! The owners have created something
a bit special - a combination of a deli, cafe and top quality
bistro style eatery. The restaurant downstairs is almost hidden away
but I'd recommend everybody to go find it. I was bowled over
by the quality of the food and the service. For starters,
I shared the Bread Tray with my wife, coupled with Chorizo Sausages
- very nice tapas starter, and then I went for a fish main course:
Grilled Pollock. Absolutely stunning. And then great
desserts to round off a brilliant meal. For once, I skipped the wine,
even though the list was very good. Instead I got hooked on the Marble
organic beer - I chose the 6% with ginger and it went down a treat.
One last comment about the staff - they're top class, well
informed and passionate about the food they produce. Definitely
5 stars in my book"

"Having
been to all of the other establishments in the Restaurants
Of Manchester Top 10, and agreeing wholeheartedly with the inclusion
of each in the list, I've been looking forward to visiting Gastro's
for some time. I finally had chance this weekend and, like the previous
reviewer, was blown away by the standard of service, the menu,
quality of the food and the price. It was absolutely
faultless! I'd even go as far as saying that it could
be the best in town although there's something that makes
me cautious about making that bold statement and it's hard to pinpoint
why. After much thinking about it, the only thing I could complain
about, and it's hardly a gripe, is the quality of their stereo system
(which sounds like a builder's transistor radio playing in the background).
I guess both Restaurants Of Manchester and Rob sum up it best in their
reviews below... if it was a more formal dining environment then you'd
shout it from the roof tops however, as it is, you're frightened of
being shot down for claiming a food hall is the best in town. In saying
that, it hasn't affected Antonio Carluccio in London whilst The Olive
Press in Manchester is not to disimiliar in design. The photographs
of Manchester by Neil Rowlands on the wall are superb (previously
in Suburb on Deansgate), whilst the Dyson handryers in the toilets
seem to be as much a talking point as the quality of the food - which,
by the way, is out of this world! I can highly recommend
the Ongelet Steak (a bargain at £9.95), although I'd be tempted
to have it medium next time I visit rather than well done, which they
recommend. Although a completely different dining experience from
Chaophraya (the current number 1 in the Top 10 list), Gastro's is
equally worthy of the 'best in town' label. Complimentary
water, great food at great prices, very friendly service and a nice
atmosphere all add up to a very memorable night out."

went on a Tuesday evening and were blown away, by the staff,
service food and atmosphere - everything I look for when
we go out... Go! you won't be dissapointed"

"I
went last night and was thoroughly impressed by the food and
service at Gastro's. I had the Scallops and Pork to start
which were excellent, if a little salty, and my partner
had Mussels which were served with a delicious sauce. I had the Lamb
for my main which was absolutely divine and my partner had the Fish
of the Day which was delightfully fresh and really
tasted of the sea. To finish we had cheeses. Overall, the restaurant
is a lovely addition to Manchester, with friendly service
and nicely presented, different food. Whilst it may be a
little on the pricey side, and the portion sizes
a tad small, it is a very nice restaurant with high
quality, exquisite food. 4/5"

"We
visited Gastros on a Sunday afternoon after a recommendation from
a friend and we were not disappointed. On arrival there is the choice
to eat in a deli style food hall or slightly more formal restaurant,
both are equally impressive. For starter we had Baked
Mussels with Chorizo and Butter Beans which was amazing.
One portion was enough to share between two people. For mains I had
Leg of lamb with Herb & Caper Mash with Carrots and my girlfriend
had Red Mullet with Slow Roast Veg and Feta - both were delicious
again and good portion sizes and good value
(£12.95 and £11.95). Overall the experience was great
and we will definitely return and can't recommend the place enough!"

"Nice
atmosphere, attentive staff, they're making a real effort
with where they get the food from and the chef's pretty good.
Thank God its not another chain... I think you'll like it, give it
a try!"

"Very
good restaurant and their own special water (still or sparkling)
comes free of charge. Upstairs it's more of a cafe, whilst downstairs
is the restaurant. The food is excellent and I would
definitely return."

"A
great addition to the Manchester food scene, with a great
choice of locally sourced dishes and really attentive
and helpful staff. A group of us shared the Antipasta plate
and Baked Mussels, both of which were really good and enough of a
starter between 5 of us. My main meal was the Vegetarian Dish of the
Day, Gnocchi, it was really tasty and just the right amount to satisfy
my appetite. This was followed up with an Orange Cake with ice cream
- another great dish to finish off a top notch meal! I
will certainly be back soon both to try out the rest of the menu and
sample some of the delights of the deli counter, may even treat myself
to a few Lapland beers."

"The
food, service and price are all excellent. My only
concern about Gastro's is that the layout and design of the restaurant
and especially the cafe upstairs wouldn't persuade people to come
in for a five star meal. A different design could probably
give the customer the overall five star experience, as it
is you feel like you are sitting on kitchen chairs and eating from
a kitchen table, rather than eating in a restaurant. Saying all that,
it wouldn't stop me returning to Gastro's on a regular basis now I
know how good the food is."

"Gastro's is what
Manchester has been crying out for! Whilst the likes of Love Saves
The Day have provided a great deli cum cafe, Gastro's takes the
concept one level further - a superb delicatessen with a great cafe
and an amazing restaurant to match.
Located in the old Sackville Street warehouse vacated by Gaia, the
location is also in its favour. Just 5 minutes walk from the Palace
Theatre and even closer to the gay village with Piccadilly train
station also a stone's throw away, it's the ideal place to grab
some ingredients on your way home or a top notch meal ahead of your
show.
Whilst the cafe upstairs
offers a great menu and superb pizza's, the food in the downstairs
restaurant is truly fantastic - indeed, a revelation and almost
unexpected from such a laid back welcoming environment. The locally
sourced Onglet Steak is epecially worthy of mention - cooked to
perfection and a steal at £9.95 (roast veg sides an extra
£2.95). This seemed typical of Gastro's with all mains ranging
from £6.25 (Pizza Fiorentina) to only £15.95 (a 300g
Local Rib Eye Steak). For locally sourced food of this quality you'd
expect to pay more.
If this was a more
formal dining environment you'd expect it to be widely touted as
the best restaurant in town. As it is, it's an all inclusive destination
worthy of many a repeat visit."-
