East
Chinese Restaurant Manchester - reader comments |
"To celebrate
Chinese New Year we visited East, one of our favourite restaurants
in China Town - an area where, quite frankly, pre-knowledge
of where's good and where's truly awful is essential. The
decor, whilst basic, is inviting, as are the youthful friendly
staff. Prices are equally as welcoming, with some great lunch
time offers too. Instead we opted for the a la carte menu,
selecting a mixture of Dim Sums from the 40 or so on offer.
Being rather greedy, we ordered Steamed Beef Dumplings with
Water Chestnut (£2.20), Steam Whelks in Satay Sauce (£2.80),
Deep Fried Minced Pork & Bamboo Shoot Parcels (£2.20),
Deep Fried Cheese Squid (£2.80), Pan-fried Pork &
Prawn Dumplings (£2.80), and the best of the bunch, the
Steamed Baby Octopus in Satay Sauce (£2.50), which alone
have been reason enough for me to return to East in the past.
We also opted for the Fried Chicken Fillet with Honey and
Lemon Sauce (£7.20), which was also excellent however
came with Steamed Rice (£1.50), rather than the Soft
Noodles (£4) that we ordered. This was quickly rectified
and some noodles were belatedly delivered. Sadly, we were
charged for both, however a quick word with the very friendly
manager, who had been circling the restaurant introducing
himself to diners throughout our visit, easily corrected the
situation with no questions asked. He even gave us a large
Chinese calendar to celebrate the New Year. All in all, East
is a great restaurant if you love Dim Sum or are looking for
a quality restaurant in Chinatown. As is often the case, we
will be returning soon. Kung Hei Fat Choi!"
