The highly-acclaimed Linen restaurant at Manchester235 has appointed a new Head Chef with Jaromir Hlavsa moving over from the Malmaison.
"Jarda", as he is affectionately known locally, originally trained at a private culinary college in his home city of Prague before working his way up the ranks at the Radisson Alcron Hotel, (recently crowned the first hotel in the Czech Republic to receive a Michelin Star), before moving to the Manchester Malmaison in 2004, where he was made Head Chef in 2010. ~ 29 Jun
Red Hot World Buffet has officially unveiled its second floor with a glittering launch event. The lavish new 10,000 sq ft floor, fitted at a cost of over £250,000 is designed to provide dedicated facilities for corporate guests and includes a board room with WiFi. It also doubles up to provide relief for the main restaurant below during busy times. Private booths are individually styled to reflect the nationality of the cuisines served at the restaurant, which hosts one year anniversary celebrations from 2nd - 8th July. ~ 29 June 2012
Manchester City Council has granted permission for a huge new mixed-use development in First Street, next to Whitworth Street West, allowing an August 2014 opening.
Designed by Dutch architect Mecanoo, the impressive new arts complex will be home to the new Cornerhouse Cinema and Library Theatre Company, and a 208-bed Innside hotel together with ten units for restaurants, bars and shops, plus a 700-space multi-storey car park. ~ 29 Jun
The stunning building on York Street in the city centre which houses Browns bar and brasserie as well as the Linder Myers law firm, is up for sale for more than £2.6m.
The listed building, built in 1902 was designed by architect Charles Heathcote as offices for Parrs Bank. In recent years it was home to Athenaeum bar before Browns moved in January 2011, highlighting many of the original fittings in the process. ~ 21 Jun
Following the long but successful Pride Of Manchester-backed battle to prevent Peel Holdings and Ian Simpson Architects from building an ugly block of apartments on the old Jackson's Wharf plot in Castlefield, the long-time derelict building is set to re-open on 3rd July as The Wharf, a 370 cover bar and restaurant from local operator Brunning & Price. ~ 28th June 2012
Exchange Bar & Grill at Salford Quays has made way for The Matchstick Man, a new pub from Hungry Horse. It's aptly named with The Lowry being located close by. ~ 25th June 2012
