Aumbry Restaurant Prestwich
The intimate dining room at Aumbry occupies a tiny, converted Victorian cottage in the heart of Prestwich village, just 16 mins on the tram from Manchester city centre.
Opened in late 2009 by highly-celebrated husband and wife chefs Laurence Tottingham and Mary-Ellen McTague, with their business partner Kate Mountain, Aumbry offers a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
The short menus reflect the abundance of wonderful local produce available throughout the seasons with Aumbry seeking out the best of these raw ingredients, cooking them with care to create dishes that aim to showcase the produce.
Using a combination of the very traditional, taking inspiration from historical cookery, and the very latest science and technology, Laurence and Mary-Ellen create dishes of deceptive simplicity.
This is quality cooking in an informal atmosphere, where service is friendly, professional yet relaxed.

Laurence and Mary-Ellen both started their careers at Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel in Ullswater, The Lake District.
After spending a year working in the States, they took positions working at the Fat Duck in Bray.
They spent four years working for Heston Blumenthal before returning home to the North West, initially to work for Paul Heathcote and Ramsons in Ramsbottom before opening Aumbry with Kate in October 2009.
Their efforts haven't gone unnoticed as Aumbry won Restaurant of the Year at both the Lancashire Life and Manchester Food & Drink Festival in Ocober 2010, just 12 months after opening.
The team are not resting on their laurels though and, after extending the kitchen, they have their sights set on consolidating their achievements so far and further exploring the wealth of fascinating historical British dishes.
The whole Aumbry experience really is worth making the short journey from Manchester, although booking ahead is essential.
